Because of the EXTREME fire danger, a voluntary backcountry closure in the Cariboo, Kamloops and Southeast fire centers has been put in place.
RSTBC (Rec Sites) was asked to close all recreation sites in the three fire centers. After discussing the challenging implications of a full closure in the context of a voluntary closure and with many campers already in place, a compromise solution was reached.
This afternoon, the ministry has released an information bulletin (see attached) strongly suggesting that people not visit recreation sites and stay out of the backcountry.
We ask everyone to be careful this long weekend no matter where you are.
